shark eats caught shark dangling on a fishing line

Check out this cheeky shark off Kaiteriteri Beach near Nelson as he tries to nick a man's catch,

Originally posted on Reddit, the pic shows a small school shark on the end of a fishing line being bitten into by a much larger blue shark just as it's about to be hauled into the boat.

"Mancubus" posted the photo on December 28, 2012 with the headline: ''Caught a small shark … next minute''.

New Zealand's Department of Conservation shark expert Clinton Duffy, a marine scientist, said the shot actually captured a common event.

''Blue sharks often steal fish off people's lines at this time of year and they also commonly eat other shark species.''

This image reminds us of this awesome image of a shark taking the bait:

And let's not forget this  classic shot of a shark eating a marlin:

We've plenty more shark pictures here, here and here (that one's NSFW). If the sharks ever decide they need to check the ph level of the water, they should try these best ph meters.

Leopard turns tables on his tormentors by eating them

leopard attacks man bu eating his face

I have no what the context of this picture is but it appears to be three dudes failing in their efforts to contain a leopard. Presumably they were trying to sedate him to remove him from an area where humans where, instead they bumbled and let the leopard attack and eat the head of one of their crew.

I bet he had a sore head in the morning and probably needed some stiches after the leopard had clawed his back once or twice! Imagine the terror that is probably going though the man's head (apart from teeth). The leopard probably isn't two happy about being hunted down by these three idiots either.

Want more? Here's a leopard scalping a man (he just wanted some face to go in his sandwich!)  and my favourite, a leopard taking down and killing and eating a crocodile.

Kingfisher eating a stone loach

Saturday, November 10, 2012

The Kingfisher bird is one of nature's finest creations. They are so cute and they also just don't give a fuck about the rules.

Here's one eating a stone loach. It looks bloody disgusting. Down the hach!

This picture was photographed by a gentleman with an expensive camera called Steve Hatch.

Baby crocodile eaten for dessert by a fish eagle

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

This is a wonderous photography moment of a fish eagle snatching a young Nile crocodile within the bounds of the Selous Game reserve, Tanzania. I like this picture as it's usually the crocodiles doing all the eating...

Safari guide Mark Sheridan-Johnson took the picture whilst on... safari I guess.

Gull eating a cute puffin

This is a cool picture of a cheeky herring gull plucking a puffin up from the ground to have him as his lunch.

A crazy picture of a locust eating a mouse

locust eating a mouse

Check out this fantastic picture of a locust eating a mouse. This long dead duo is preserved and is exhibit on display at the Natural History Museum, London

Apparently the subjects  were preserved  more than one hundred years ago and was collected by Reverend M H Reid in the Congo.

One could speculate that the mouse was already dead before the locust found it, other wise that was a super-insect effort from the hungry locust.

One can't help but wonder if this pairing was a set up from by the good Reverend as it seems to good to be true and too neatly posed. What do you think?

Feeding humpack whale surprises onlookers

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Check out this really awesome picture of a humpback whale feeding on fish in the ocean near  San Luis Obispo, California. You gotta wonder at the genius of the people getting up close to the whale, all sorts of crazy stuff could happen. Like a whale might land on them... splash!

Bill Bouton took this snap. More pictures found here.

golden eagle who carries a KNIFE

Things must be getting tough with the recession. Despite having sharp beaks and incredibly strong talons, some eages have felt the need to arm themselves with knives to help them take down their prey. I'm sure there's a Crocodile Dundee joke in there somewhere....

Alligator bites off arm

An alligator, rumoured to be least three metres in length, lunged at a teenager swimming in a river and bit off the teen's right arm below the elbow.

Kaleb Langdale, 17, amazing survived the encounter on Monday in the Caloosahatchee River, west of Lake Okeechobee, in Florida.

I wonder if this guy can watch Star Wars ever again.
Wildlife officers who caught and killed the alligator retrieved the arm from within the alligator, but doctors were unable to reattach it as it the bones had been broken beyond repair and as you might have expected, partly digested. Washing it with sodium percarbonate didn't help much either.

Check out the time a vet's arm got eaten by a croc but was re-attached!

Check out these images of a cheetah attack on 60-year-old Violet D'Mello that were was captured on film by her husband who was watching from outside the animal's enclosure.

D'Mello had gone to the aid of two children who were on the lunch menu of the Cheetah.

She needed stitches to her head and suffered injuries around her eyes and leg. I just love how her husband kept filming while Violet was mauled by the animals. Loving marriage much?

crocodile on hippopotamus back kruger national park
Going my way bro?
While not strictly an animal eating an animal photo, you do have to wonder what this baby croc was doing on the back of the hippo. Was he going to eat its ears?

Taken in Kruger National Park in South Africa, Richard Millar, the photographer said,"I came across this hippo in the water which at first had a heron on its back - then all of a sudden this small crocodile crawled up one side of it and sat on its back."

The coolest things happen in Kruger Park eh?

mother bird feeds baby chicks a cricket

Birds eating worms, bugs and other grubs

A bird's gotta eat right and sing as they wake up at the crack of dawn, history shows those birds have a great chance of getting the worm. A by gosh, it would appear birds love to eat worms. I imagine they are a great source of protein!

As a child I read several of Roald Dahl's wonderful books - and the above picture of the mother bird feed her young chicks worms reminds me of Dahl's The Twits - they were a nasty couple who did mean thinks like feed the other a plate of worms disguised as spaghetti! A classic trick if you were a kid....

But you didn't come to Animals Eating Animals for an anecdote about childhood reading, you came for pictures of birds eating bug and grubs and some other critters right? Here you go friend, feast on this!

This last picture shows that even owls know they can eat worms. While it's probably a stereotype that owls eat rats, it's clear they don't mind getting their beaks dirty foraging for worms in the earth.

Can kingfishers read?

A kingfisher shows a blatant disregard for  the request of the sign as it is caught perching on a 'no fishing' sign with a poor fish in its beak.

The cheeky kingfisher swooped down to land on the sign with a mouth full of fish and appeared to be reading the warning.

cheetahs eating

I spied this hilariously set of cheetahs getting up to no good on Facebook somewhere. It looks like they’ve made friends with a baby gazelle / impala, patted them with friendly paws (to show friendship), licked them (for taste of course) and then had them for lunch. Nature at its finest.
