Nature at its finest can be a thing of beauty. Here's pictures of the bloody carnage that results.

Leopard takes down a crocodile

What's with the crocodiles in Kruger National Park? Are they pussies? Remember the Battle of Kruger where they lost? Check out these photos of a leopard dragging a crocodile from a river and finishing off on land.

The photographs were taken by Hal Brindley, a professional American wildlife photographer, who was supposed to be taking pictures of hippotami from inside his car in the Kruger National Park. A
titanic wrestle followed.  The leopard  was able to drag the crocodile from the water to the land.

With the crocodile snapping its jaws furiously, the two animals continued to wrestle. Despite the crocodile's huge weight and strength, the leopard had the upper hand catching its prey by the throat. The following pictures show how the croc was subdued, suffocated and then dragged off by the leopard for a well earned lunch!

The leopard may have some crocodile meat to eat today but sometimes crododiles do win. Check out when this crocodile bit off a vet's arm or where one got a shark!

The Eagle has landed

Splash and dash
Eagles are large birds of prey which are members of the bird family Accipitridae, and belong to several genera which are not necessarily closely related to each other. Most of the more than 60 species occur in Eurasia and Africa. Outside this area, just two species (the Bald and Golden Eagles) can be found in the USA and Canada, nine more in Central and South America, and three in Australia.

Eagles are differentiated from many other birds of prey mainly by their larger size, more powerful build, and heavier head and beak. Even the smallest eagles, like the Booted Eagle (which is comparable in size to a Common Buzzard or Red-tailed Hawk), have relatively longer and more evenly broad wings, and more direct, faster flight. Most eagles are larger than any other raptors apart from the vultures. Species named as eagles can range in size from the South Nicobar Serpent-eagle, at 500 grams (1.1 pounds) and 40 cm (16 in), to the 6.7-kg Steller's Sea Eagle and the 100 cm (39 in) Philippine Eagle.

Eagles are the predators of the sky, swooping down from above to take their prey:

Eagle feasting on a seagull...
Like all strong birds of prey, eagles have very large powerful hooked beaks for tearing the flesh from their prey, strong muscular legs, and powerful talons. They also have extremely keen eyesight which enables them to spot potential prey from a very long distance above. This keen eyesight is primarily contributed by their extremely large pupils which ensure minimal diffraction (scattering) of the incoming light. Hence the expression, "eagle eyed".

Is this prey a rabbit? Either way it shows you how fast an Eagle can swoop down and catch a prey that is bigger in mass with four legs! Run Rabbit Run!

Run rabbit run!
A rabbit you say? Heck, my blind grandmother could catch one of those. Ok then, jackass, how about a fox? You ever seen an eagle catch a cunning fox? You have now:

What do frogs eat?

Frogs. Kermit. Ribbit. Princes under evil witches spells. Tadpoles. Croaking. Frogs remind me of grog. Which is awesome as grog is awesome.

Fuck, frogs are cool. Here's some frogs eating various things found in the swamp...such as other frogs like this bloke above.... or this whole bird below!

More bird anyone?

What else do bull frogs get up to when they are a bit peckish? Grass snake?

How about jumping across the great divide for a slater?

Of course, frogs are not really king of the pond, and sometimes the birds get their revenge:

Kermit the frog also once ate Lady Gaga. It wasn't pretty...

Hello, Hello, do you like frogs? Gnomes?

Check out this myth about boiling frogs....

Heron has a snake snack

A hungry Heron has a snake snack...which in do so it interupted this snake eating a fish. It's like some kind of natural turducken phenomenon. It's a trifecta of sorts anyway:

That snake must have been happily chowing down in his fresh fish and then BOOM! terror falls from the skies in the form of the heron's beak into the snake's juicy flesh. As we like to say here at Animals Eating Animals, that is nature at its finest!

Angry like the Tiger

Check out this former zoo tiger from Germany as it arrived at the Dutch shelter for predators in Nijeberkoop. The tigers come from the defunct Tierpark Kalletal zoo, which closed earlier this year (2010).

Yes, technically this post is not of a tiger eating another animal but look at this tiger, it's pissed off it's been in a cage all day and that snarl just says, "I'm gonna eat you if you let me out!"

Shere Kahn and other Tigers I have known...

Tigers are like the 'other' King of the Jungle. Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book made the tiger, Shere Kahn,  into a dangerous bastard who was not to be trusted. This was based on the real behavior of Tigers as they are great hunters and will stealthily glide through the jungle to catch their lunch.

The tiger (Panthera tigris) is a member of the Felidae family; the largest of the four "big cats" in the genus Panthera. Native to much of eastern and southern Asia, the tiger is an apex predator and an obligate carnivore. This means that  Shere Kahn will fuck you up, man.

Tigers can reach up to 3.3 metres (11 ft) in  length and weigh up to 300 kilograms (660 pounds).  The most numerous tiger subspecies is the Bengal tiger while the largest subspecies is the Siberian tiger.

They are beautiful animals and as such their skins were much sought after and as a result, the numbers of tigers are dangerously low. World Wild Fund has some views on the issue.

This calf is having a bad day. Clearly, it's not a natural setting.

Love them bones!

Meat on ice, to keep it Tiger Fresh!

Like most cats, Tigers some times need to eat grass to assist with their digestion. This is especially so after eating an impala..

Snooze, you loose, Blesbuck as the South China Tigers are fucking fast.

Tiger on the prowl...

Tiger facts from WWF:
  • Tigers are found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia (Sumatra), Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, North Korea, Russia (Far East), Thailand and Vietnam.
  • The 6 living subspecies of tigers are: Amur, Bengal, Indochinese, Malayan, South China and Sumatran.
  • The Bali, Caspian and Javan tiger subspecies have all become extinct.
  • Wild tiger numbers have fallen by about 95% over the past 100 years.
  • Tigers survive in 40% less area than they occupied a decade ago.

Baby bat eats a worm

I want to suck your worm?

Biologist Guido Pfalzer feeds an injured Leisler's Bat (Nyctalus leisleri) with a flour worm in the southern German city of Kaiserslautern. Pfalzer looks after injured bats and helps them recover before releasing them to the wild. You could say he's a bit batty!?

Vet with dart gun v Crocodile: Guess who wins?

So apparently this photo is the result of a veterinarian seeking to examine a crocodile. Having drugged the living fossil, the vet assumed it was safe to put one's arm down the croc's throat to retrieve the tranquilizer dart  he used to drug the animal.

crocodile with arm in mouth
A smirking crocodile
Is it me or is the crocodile actually smirking? I think he's displaying the arm as a trophy and so he should, he totally faked out the vet!

crocodile eats man arm
Check out the to darts at the left of the picture. Lesson? You need four darts!
The good news is the arm was able to re attached to one Chang Po-yu's' body. This all happened in 2007 at Shaoshan Zoo in the southern city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

No smirking in this photo as Chang Po-yu's holds up four fingers to show how many darts he should use next time
Now, the title of this post asked, "guess who wins?" And I bet you thought the crocodile won, after he got the guys arm right? No. To get the arm back the crocodile had to be shot twice. Sad Face.

But wait! The bullets missed and the smirking crocodile was not shot! It's a win for the crocodile and the crowd goes wild!

True story, you can't make this kind off stuff up.

What does a foot taste like to a Shark?

When Sharks eat feet! What to they think they taste like?

Let's face it, before Jaws gave sharks in general a bad name, they already had a bad name as man eaters. Since the first person dipped their toes in the ocean, sharks have honed in on man's scent, sensing a tasty lunch. That, or the shark has incorrectly identified a dude on a surf board as a seal. A sweet, juicy seal.

Here's some pictures of the after affects of a shark that had a foot fetish:

While we all real know that fish are friends (not food) but tell that to polar beers. They seem to have a thing for human feet too...

Python eats a pregnant Ewe!

python after eating a pregnant ewe
A happy, well fed python sits on a highway after swallowing a pregnant ewe in the village of Kampung Jabor which is about 200km east of Kuala Lumpur. The six-metre snake weighing 90kg was too laden to move, making it easy for the local brigade team to capture it.. with what looks like a piece of rope.

When Wombats attack!

Put another shrimp on the barbie mate while I tell ya about the rapid Wombat that tried to eat this Aussie bloke...

A Black Saturday bushfire survivor is recovering in hospital after he was attacked by a wombat outside his caravan north-east of Melbourne today.

Bruce Kringle, 60, lay on top of the animal in a desperate bid to stop the attack in Flowerdale just before 7am.

A neighbour heard his cries for help and, after telling Mr Kringle to move off the animal, killed it with a blow from the back of an axe.

Mr Kringle, an animal lover who is living in a caravan while his new house to be built, has told family he feared for his life during the attack.

He was taken to The Northern Hospital in Epping with puncture wounds to his legs and arms.

A Rural Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said Mr Kringle told paramedics another person had complained about a rogue wombat in the area two days ago.

Geoff McClure, compliance team leader for the Department of Sustainability and Environment, said a wombat attack was extremely unusual.

He said wombats could feel threatened and rush at a person, especially if the animal was suffering from the skin condition mange, caused by parasitic mites.

‘‘In the advanced stages wombats become very irritable and anyone who approaches them, they usually view as a threat and may run towards them,’’ he said.

‘‘They appear aggressive but we have never had reports of wombats actually attacking people.’’

Snake eats a McHippo Meal

Apparently this photo is the after shot of a python snake eating a whole hippopotamus.

That's right this snake has managed to sneak up on one of the most dangerous animals in Africa and eat it whole, like it was some kind of delicious McHappy meal.

We're wondering why the snake hasn't had it's sides burst out because that's one seriously huge meal!

snake eats hippopotamus

We strongly suspect the snake came across a dead baby hippo as crickey, there's surely no way an anaconda or python could convince a hippo to sit still while it goes to work with its jaws!

Python rests his weary bones under and electric fence?

As James Bond would say if this was a Goldfinger movie, shocking!

This python had eaten an impala ewe and was trying to go through the electric fence when it was killed by the electric fence. The poor beast would have not known what the heck was going on and appears to have resorted to biting the very thing killing him, further adding to it's demise. Humans -  fucking up nature since we began eh?

The pictures were taken on Silent Valley Ranch in the Waterberg mountains of South Africa.

Check out the  impala that was found in the Rock python's stomach:

Polar bears suck at camping

Warning, this is a grisly post and is possibly NSFW

The definition of animal includes human beings so I am totally justified in bringing you these pictures of a hungry polar bears efforts at trying to make a meal of an Innuit hunter called Kootoo Shawwho amazingly survived this attack near the Arctic village of Kimmirut in Nunavut, the northernmost territory of Canada.

Long story short, hunters were camping when attacked by a polar bear who wanted to eat them.

Here's the end result:

foot eaten by polar bear

And here's the end result for the bear. Sad face.

Those Polar bears are turning about to be some pretty scary animals! They even have cannibalistic tendencies!

Source: Urban Legends (which reckon this story was true)

Polar Bears are cannibals? Who knew?

Polar Bears are cannibals? Who knew?

I'm not sure the victim in this picture knew any way. Check it out, the polar bear has totally made a McHappy Meal of this baby polar bear. What used to be cute, well... it's lunch now.

This Reuters photo shows what happened on a snowy day north of the Canadian town of Churchill.

Check out that tooth!
As usual, some Al Gore loving hippy claimed that this canabalistic behaviour was the result of climate change and lack of food etc as a result however a level headed Innuit noted that a male polar bear eating a cub is a normal occurrence. Cool. Indeed a retired Environment Canada biologist Ian Stirling says evidence suggests cubs are being killed for food, not just so the male can mate with the mother.

Okay, you bad kids, here's one more cannibal polar bear picture for luck:

Mean while, in one particular Zoo, polar bears get to eat horse.
